About Me

From passion to professional

Amelia has been involved with horses since she started riding at a young age. What started as weekly lessons and an involvement with the local 4-H club led to a degree in Equine Science from the University of New Hampshire. Since graduation, Amelia has been active in many facets of the horse world – from farm worker to event groom to tack store employee and much in between.  She spends her time in the saddle pursing eventing and thoroughly enjoys the nuances of dressage. Thanks to her two horses: Duke, a retired Irish Sports Horse and Ollivander, a Warmblood, her fascination with bits, bitting and tack was sparked.  Both horses proved to be very sensitive and particular in what they liked and required non-traditional bitting solutions. Through these journeys with her boys, Amelia discovered what her next step in life was to be.

How I Got Started

Amelia has thrown herself wholeheartedly into her training and education to become an independent bit and bridle fitter. She has done many involved courses with organizations such as the North American Saddlery School, Horse Bit Fit Academy, British Equestiran Trade Association, Neue Schule and EvoEquine. She is currently working towards her LANTRA certification in both bridle and bit fitting. Her education has not stopped at bit and bridle fitting. She is interested in a whole picture approach and in pursuit of this she has taken massage classes and teamed up with an equine dentist to learn more about mouth anatomy.

She has worked with a mentor in person, shadowing appointments and gaining hands on learning opportunities. Amelia plans to enroll in more coursework this fall and would eventually like to complete the Society of Master Saddler’s Bridle Fitter course. Her goals are to help both horse and rider and there will always be more to learn to achieve this goal.
